WE ARE BUILDING AN ECO-SYSTEM

FOR THE CATS

About Us

WHO WE ARE

We are a KittyRescue association. People with a common purpose that having a formal structure to operate under. G.D.H Cole would describe us as a group of volunteers pursuing a common goal of helping stray cats that extends beyond a single act; and for this purpose agreeing together upon a specific method of procedures for common actions.

OUR MISSION

By our actions and by example, our goal is not only to influence, but to educate the communities we live in. Our aim is to put the humanity back into being human and re-establish our connection with the animals. Ultimately, we are looking to prevent unnecessary euthanasia and neglect of companion and stray animals.

OUR VISION

To create a society, which no longer requires Animal Rescue organizations in the UAE. We envisage to create an Eco-System for the animals and contribute to the UAE Federal Law No.16, appertaining to the animal protection which states that animals should not be left alone or abandoned.
Who we are
Our Story
The founder’s initial activities started in 2019 involving feeding of homeless cats on a daily basis in her Downtown area. Then, when the COVID19 broke out in Mar 2020, she was noticing that there was an increasing number of abandoned cats in Dubai, including the house-pets who were thrown out on the streets and trying quickly to learn how to survive without food and water, fighting for their life & safety on the Dubai streets. The scene was heart-breaking.

This forced her to join one of the biggest Animal Welfare Organization as a volunteer to help to rescue animals. It didn’t take long before she has learnt that the UAE Government does not provide any structure or support for the volunteers to help the Government to save & control stray and abandoned animals. Veterinary clinics charging 5 times more for the treatments & medicine (compare to Europe) and volunteers do not get any discounts as a private individual for rescued cats’ treatments, unless they are registered with the licensed Rescue Organizations. Also, the Police imposing financial penalties for feeding the stray cats.

From that point on, the founder of the KittyRescue has become a full-time volunteer herself and founded to be rescuing injured & abused cats, taking them to the Vet for treatments. All these activities are financed from her own savings & the banks loans to this present day. Today, she is still rescuing the cats herself and feeding about 100 stray cats every night in her area. Also, she is sponsoring 6 cat-foster families, who provide home for the disabled cats (after the Vet treatments) and who cannot pay for the cats’ basic needs, such as food, litter & medicine.
Who we are
Our Today
The KittyRescue founder decided to create a KittyRescue Association involving everyone who is willing to listen and participate in the UAE cats’ rescue mission and who cares about the Animal Welfare.

Today, we are a small group of dedicated volunteers who are passionate and persistent in making a difference in the cats’ life in the UAE. We want to be heard and supported by the Rulers of all Emirates. We want to contribute to the Country’s Welfare in general, like cleaning the streets from the begging cats, preventing of spreading the disease and educating the public.

Through public education we hope to influence individuals to respect and to be a responsible pet owner. It’s important to know that spaying/neutering of their pets reduce the number of unwanted & abandoned companions. In turn, this will reduce the amount of animal suffering and lead to the elimination of animal cruelty.

We will continue to be a resource for people forced to give up their pets due to legitimate health reasons. We have become more efficient and more selective in our undertakings, so as to have a more positive and effective impact in all the rescue activities we undertake. We rescue stray cats, place them in foster care until they could be treated for any injuries and disease and adopted into new, safe and loving homes.

Our daily activities involve:

  • providing protection from the weather and predators
  • feeding the stray cats with the appropriate wholesome diet
  • providing a continuous supply of fresh drinking water

From 2020 until today we have rescued over 500* cats, including 2* rabbits, 2* pigeons, 6* dogs and a turtle. We found homes for over 200* cats. Currently we have around 600* cats/kittens available for adoption which includes 30* cats that we are still observing socially and are not ready for placement yet. A total of 200* cats have entered into our Owner/Foster Program. We have had only 3 cats returned due to major changes in the adopters’ circumstances. Our volunteer and foster home numbers fluctuate periodically, because UAE law do not allow to keep large number of cats in the houses. Currently we have 8* dedicated volunteers, 6* of whom are also providing a long-term foster homes.

10 shocking rescue stories:
  1. 4 puppies had been found by a passer-by in Umm Al Quwain in a black bag tied to a tree and left in the sun to die. Two puppies suffocated and 2 were still alive. It turned out to be that the owner was a local guy, who came to that tree at night to bury them.
  2. A pet owner abandoned 8 dogs in his Tecom villa in unimaginably filthy conditions. 3 of the dogs (mother and her 2 puppies) were found sitting in their own faeces looking lifeless in a small dark bathroom, without food and water for days.
  3. Three caged rabbits are mercilessly left outside a villa in Dubai area by their owner before leaving for a summer vacation. A maid working in a neighbouring villa informs her employer who takes the rabbits in to his house. One rabbit dies and the others were severely dehydrated.
  4. Two cats were left alone in an apartment when the pet owner left the country for good. A friend, who supposed to check on the cats and re-home them, fails to show up. The pet owner contacted the cat Rescue team and the building security. The Rescue team has managed to save the starving cats, who probably survived on the toilet water for days.
  5. 2 dogs (including pregnant female dog) had acid thrown on them by people who didn’t want them in their building in Al Ain. Male dog suffered severe burns and eventually died. The female dog has returned to the building to litter her puppies. Now all dogs are in a foster home.
  6. An adult male husky was kept inside a puppy carrier by his owner for years in Abu Dhabi. The owner claimed that the dog was only 4-month-old. A visit too the vet by a Rescue team revealed that the dog was 2 years old and runt in his litter. The dog was malnourished and frightened. He squeezed into his carrier to feel safe.
  7. Female dog was found by a passer-by in the Kawaneej area with a wire around its neck. She was being chased by children, who beat her and pelt her with stones. The dog suffers horrific wounds as the wire sliced into her neck tissue. The incision from the wire rips her trachea muscles so badly that a few millimetres deeper could have proved fatal.
  8. A maid in Jumeirah was seen carrying a cat and her kittens in a bin liner and dumping them in a garbage bin. The rescued cats were malnourished and starved.
  9. A dog with 9 bullets were found fighting for his life in UAQ.
  10. A pregnant cat found lifeless on the streets of Bur Dubai with an eye hanging out, half of the tail cut off and the cigarette burns all over her body.

Over the last two years, we have evolved, grown into a community, and gained valuable experience. We have successfully increased our ability to match the right cats with the right foster homes and adopters outside UAE, mainly using the social media. Our skilled volunteers continue to provide assistance to abandoned cats and owners who are forced to find new homes for their pet(s). Our involvement with independent rescuers, assisting them with animal placement, has increased as has our involvement in Trap/Neuter/Re-release (TNR) programs.
Who we are
Our Tomorrow
We are targeting to become a charitable Association / a Fund and a Central Rescue facility for the whole UAE, which will be governed by a Board of Directors, made up of the Partners/Investors/Sponsors/ Rulers of the Emirates and the Animal Welfare Governing Bodies, national & international. This will result in gradually increased private donations and non-cash donations (such as items for fundraising). It will also increase the need for greater transparency and for detailed, accurate record keeping.

We would like the UAE to be the first to have a state-of-the-art animal Eco-System with the latest technologies, which is self-sufficient and eco-friendly. This will attract a lot of tourists (artists, cat lovers, schools, celebrities’endorsements and enforces businesses CSRs).

All our financing will be obtained mainly through the corporate sponsorships (under the CSR programs), surrender fees, private cash donations, fundraising activities, crowdfunding, NFTs. We are also exploring new revenue generating opportunities.

Our long-term plan is to have the following services in our Eco-System:

  • KittyRescue Fund (national or international)
  • Mobile Rescue (full time team with equipment & transport)
  • Shelter (storage facility required)
  • Veterinary Clinic & ICU units
  • Adoption Agency
  • Cat Hotel
  • Grooming Services
  • Coffee shop
  • Own Merchandising
  • Kids Educational facilities
  • Own Media Production (to create awareness & education)
  • Own animal food production factory
  • Own animal litter production factory

We are planning to create an eco-system using the newest and innovative technologies, starting from our own energy production & water supply to the cat food eco-manufacturing facilities (refer to our existing projects page).
